Recently, we’ve been using more and more plants to decorate our venues and smaller events, thanks to the green-fingered efforts of our Nursery crew in Treehuggers and our Challenge Employment groups. Together, they have lavished regular love (and fertiliser!) on our 1,200 stage and potted plants, and boy, has it paid off. The plants are flourishing and, naturally, they have been noticed—leading to a delightful little side gig for our beloved green, potted friends: decor on the move. 

The City of Moreton Bay holds regular free community events and Mask Events is engaged to dress and ready the venues. Dom Fusca, Creative Director of Mask Events and Co-head of Pranafest, contacted our Site Manager Chris Shervey about hiring some of our plants. “You sure can!” said Shervey. 

Above are the lovely people who joined the Nursery project at The Planting, taking good care and having a lot of fun as they shifted succulents, propagated and repotted lots of rootbound plants, and weeded many of the stage plants. Young ones got right into the problem solving and all had a wonderful time preparing the Sisterhood to go travelling.

Our latest travelling greenery gig was just down the road in Caboolture. A local Woodfordian handled both delivery and return, and we leased out roughly 50 plants for the event. The arrangement has worked out beautifully: the delivery volunteer earns a bit of income, Woodfordia gains funds toward nursery maintenance, and our potted superstars get a day out from the Eastern Bloc. It’s a real win-win, especially considering the ongoing costs of pots, soil, plant food, and maintenance. 

When our stars of the stage can help Woodfordia while being their green and gorgeous selves, we’re all happy. 

This event was a great test opportunity because the City of Moreton Bay has more than 19 events next year!
