Lake Gkula Camping is proudly run by volunteers, with a small and varied crew who come to lend their time to running the campground, cleaning amenities, serving food and drink in the Lake Gkula Bar & BBQ, selling sundries and merchandise in the General Store, and more. Volunteers are also needed to assist us in preparing the site in the setup  and cleaning up afterwards. Whether you can come for the whole two weeks, or just for a few days, there are plenty of options for getting involved and creating a campground with a special vibe.

There are two possible ways to volunteer:

1. Short-term Volunteering

Donate 4 – 5 hours per day for between 3 and 6 days and you’ll receive one meal each day you volunteer plus an extra day to camp without any rostered shift. A great option if you only have a small amount of time but still want to be part of it.

2. Long-term Volunteering

Donate 7 days or more, for 4 – 5 hours per day and in return, you’ll receive 3 basic meals per day while working and an additional week of camping. You’ll also have access to cooking facilities for when you aren’t working, and access to an affordable laundromat.

All volunteers are able to bring up to two children/toddlers with them at no cost. Please contact the office ( to organise complimentary tickets for your children. This offer does not include youth (13 – 17years) however we do accept youth volunteers.

We will do our best to get back to you within ONE week of applying. If you haven’t heard from us after a week, please email and give us a gentle nudge.

See below to find out more about the different roles and to apply. And if you’re interested in taking on a bit more responsibility, helping to manage a team, click here.

We are accepting expressions of interest from people who are keen to take on a leadership role within the Lake Gkula Camping organising group.

Taking on a leadership role involves pre-event volunteer recruitment, screening and placing, as well as creating rosters, training the volunteers and then making sure they are having a great time while at the camp. After the camp, there is a little bit of reporting to be done.

If you are interested, email your CV to and let us know your prior experience at Woodfordia, whether you’ve been to one of our festivals or events as a patron, volunteer or other.
