This is your chance to gain real industry experience in a fast paced IT and more broadly with tech staff and end users of critical network infrastructure. This is an opportunity to work alongside the highly skilled event management staff and volunteers to create a fit for purpose network that provides critical service redundancy and diversity for the largest festival in Australia. Learn about all aspects of working within IT Networking, event management and real world exposure to critical service networks. This internship will feature hands on experience across a range of roles with experience streams across IT, event management, and user engagement to deliver a stable, reliable and high availability network that can scale and adapt to a changing upstream service availability and user requirements.

Skills Developed

  • Real world IT networking experience in a large and diverse organisation.
  • Networking design and implementation TCP/IP UDP WAN and VOIP based traffic.
  • Collaboration skills with end users to understand meet needs.
  • Hands on experience with network management and configuration tools such as Ubiqiti, RouterOS (Dude), Cisco and legacy equipment (ADSL, VDSL).
  • Detailed learning of concepts of Routing, firewallling, QOS, bandwidth limiting, diverse networking and redundancy.
  • Hands on experience with local device configuration for many types of network equipment, WAP’s, P2P, P2MP, wired and wireless.
  • Understanding of copper network deployment, configuration and management.

Experience Gained

  • Industry experience with a major festival in the design and implementation of a large scale IT network.
  • Site experience performing design and installation of networking equipment.
  • Use of monitoring and remote configuration tools for diverse network approaches.
  • Collaboration with end user’s to ensure user experience and network coverage needs are met.
  • Planning and implementation of networking designs for fixed infrastructure and moveable networking components.
  • Mentorship from experienced team members who are working in the industry.

  • Strong desire to learn about IT and complex networking systems.

Desirables (these are skills we would like in any interns in this area)

  • Some experience with large IT networking systems.
  • Experience with configuration and management tools for diverse networks.
  • Understanding of the OSI networking framework and how it pertains to network implementation.

 

We work in a Mac-based office environment. It is preferable that the intern is able to do so as well, or is willing to learn (on their own time.) Being proficient in both Mac and PC is a plus.
